| PROJECT DESCRIPTION | The 'Sea Around Us' project is a major Pew Trust-funded project which examines and reports on the state of marine ecosystems. To support this a database of world fisheries catch and fishing effort is being developed with procedures for adjusting for unaccounted mortalities including discarding, misreporting etc. The project will produce ecological models of major marine systems, conduct energy analysis on fishing fleets, and complete a wide range of analysis on data provided by official sources and by consultants around the world. While initial phase concentrated on the North Atlantic, the current phase works on a range of global issues in addition to a detailed focus on the South Atlantic. | |
| DUTIES | Develop and support major global catch and effort databases, develop GIS databases and tools, provide spatial analysis, develop Fisheries Centre capacity for GIS work, support ecological modelling, supervise project staff and students involved with database work within the Pew-funded 'Sea Around Us' project. | |
